PT SMI and Laznas LMI Collaborate to Plant 25 Thousand Trees

"Alhamdulillah, today is a historic day for all of us. Mount Wilis supports 40% water savings in Java. With this planting, it means that we are looking for charity, because the water is used by people on the island of Java," said Citra Widuri as Director of Empowerment Laznas when giving a speech at the opening ceremony of planting, Sunday (5/6/2022), in Nglurup Village, Sendang District, Tulungagung Regency.

Citra's greeting, as he is familiarly called, was warmly welcomed by the chairman of the Tulungagung DPRD, Marsono. He supports Laznas and PT SMI's steps. "We are very supportive of these goodness programs. If we take care of nature, nature will take care of us," he said.

The event was also attended by the Regent of Tulungagung, who was represented by Santoso as the Head of the Environmental Service of Tulungagung Regency. He hopes that this event is not only ceremonial, but can be escorted until all the trees really grow.

The planting on the Wilis Slope is the third point which is part of the reforestation movement initiated by Laznas and PT SMI, after previously being carried out in the Blora area, Central Java and Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The fourth point is planned to be on the Meratus Slope, South Kalimantan.

The representative of the Governor of East Java, Aju Mustika Dewi, as the Head of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, really appreciates this movement.

"This project is not only an effort to deal with the impact of climate change, but is also expected to be a development of the economic climate and tourism for the surrounding community by making it a Center for Agribusiness, Agro-tourism, and Agro-education." he concluded.

This massive reforestation movement will continue throughout 2022 with a target of planting up to 100,000 trees in several provinces in Indonesia. Not only planted, but we are also committed to caring for them until they grow big so that they are expected to be able to contribute to dealing with the climate crisis that is happening.
